At BLS we still believe in traditional servicing methods and procedures as opposed to the ‘tick check box’ type now employed by most main dealers. While it is true that modern cars are much simpler to service, just think back to when we were servicing 105 series Bertone’s, when valve clearances were shimmed, points and timing set and carbs adjusted and balanced, all that work has now disappeared, however the increased sophistication of current models presents new challenges. Our experience shows that there is still a very definite need to carry out preventative maintenance on an annual basis with particular attention to brakes, filters, drive belts etc.

We have always invested heavily in specialist tools and equipment. We installed a full Sun MOT bay which includes the latest 5 gas analyser, roller brake tester and headlamp alignment equipment. We also have an Actia Examiner Smart from Italy which is the Alfa Romeo dealer diagnostic computer. In addition we have recently purchased a Pico oscilloscope for live data reading and a Smoke Pro tester for leak detection.  This see’s BLS equipped to deal with all the latest electronic control features of petrol and diesel engined Alfa Romeo’s into the foreseeable future.

We have laid out some costs for servicing and common repairs to the typical 4 cylinder 156/147 range plus diesel service prices, we are more than happy to quote for any mechanical work required whether for a classic or current model. Please remember when comparing prices to ensure the comparison is like for like i.e. the same amount of work and parts. We have itemised our cambelt change on a 1.6 – 2.0 litre to show basic replacement cambelt, tensioner and idler bearing (the minimum that should be done) – then the additional parts only cost of replacing the auxiliary belt and tensioner (1.6, 1.8 and 2.0) plus the balance shaft belt and tensioner (2.0 only). We do recommend that the additional belts and tensioners are replaced at the same time – there is no additional labour charge for doing this.
