AlfaOwner.Com Lincolnshire Section Visit – November 2009

We were happy to welcome the Lincolnshire section of AlfaOwner.Com on November 21st 2009. It was a great turnout in cold and wet conditions with over 20 cars in attendance – many more people! A good mix of Alfas were present from Alfetta GTV6  to current  159 and Spider.  We ran the day in a ‘clinic’ format, putting the section members own cars on the ramp - pointing out service tasks and  technical detail – there was much interest and debate in 916 Spider and GTV suspension bushes! The capabilities of our Smart Examiner were demonstrated in another bay – many finding this interesting as it’s usually an unseen element of service diagnostics. Graham Presley’s 75 Turbo race car was on display, as were a selection of boxer engine competition parts. We look forward to hosting a similar event in the Spring – hopefully with some sunshine!

The photos below show many of the cars in attendance (click thumbnail to see larger image) – more photos appear at:- http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/meets-and-events-images/197105-lincs-bls-meet-21-nov-pictures.html

Sprint and Hillclimb Kudos

Graham Boulter has had his most successful season to date with his 16v Boxer engined Kudos sportscar. The deserved credit for this car is all Graham’s – the standard of preparation is superb and the car is considerably developed by Graham from its original specification, the BLS part is the assembly of the transmission. In his first year with a self built 16v engine Graham competed in the same class as more familiar lightweight sportscars – Caterhams, Westfields, etc, but the highlight was taking a class win at Loton Park in September. Despite only entering 4 of the 8 counting rounds, this combined with other placings gave a 4th Overall in Class 2A of the Midland Speed Championship and also 2nd Overall in Class B1 of the Richard Egger Insurance HSA Championship. Further developments are in the pipeline for 2010.

For further details, Graham can be contacted via the Voodoo Sportscars link on the Links page.

2009 Race Season

Both Bryan and Graham decided to sit out 2009, Bryan missing his first season in sixteen years! Both are aiming to be out competing again in 2010.

Project Car

We were generously given a project Sud by former race customer Nic Page. Nic campaigned the modified Sud (with full Trofeo bodywork) in the late Eighties/early Nineties with a BLS built engine and gearbox. It’s been stripped and preserved in Nic’s garage since then but now resides in Lincoln as Nic realised that someone else may be able to make use of it again! We are treating it as a slow burning project but will build it up to an ADAC Youngtimer specification for European Historic racing. The photos below show the car as we collected it (the rest of it was in the van!), we’ll keep a photographic record of progress to post online. Time for Bryan to get the Playstation out and start learning the Nurburgring!

Alfa Romeo Owners Club Lincolnshire Section Visit - March 2009

A good turnout of cars and Owners Club members saw us talking about race car preparation – giving everyone an insight into what’s involved in preparing a racing Alfa. We also ran a diagnostics demonstration using our Smart Examiner. The afternoon ended with several cars having their brake balance and efficiency checked out on the MOT brake rollers.
